“I ain’t seen anything like this Carl,” detective Flanders said while keeping his eyes fixed on the crime scene in an attempt to contradict that statement. He needed his composure to match the veteran gray of his beard.
“I moved from the city so I didn’t have to see anymore of this shit,” Carl declared after exhaling the smoke from his vape.
“You figure them lights last night got anything to do with this?”
“Nah, they said those lights were a natural phenomenon.”

Flanders stepped over to the window while the aging floorboards creaked under him. He took a breath, “Ain’t no way a human could do…” he took a long breath, his head turning back towards the mutilated bodies of three men sprawled about the floor, “…this.”
Carl spoke in a grave tone, a tone you would have expected from a seasoned veteran of the force like Flanders, “You think that, then we come up with a brand new depravity to inflict upon another human being. Torture only an extraterrestrial would dream up.”
