There’s no comparison to those lonely steps of blackness. Darkness fails as descriptive value. Each step is an unlit pitch, expounding farther upon The fear. That chilling sensation pulsing down your neck, flowing as a river to form mountains upon your arms isn’t a trait we evolved – it’s a necessity. A requirement so that The fear might in some measure be comprehended, though no one ever really grasps it.
Every day, “I will never take that next step!” The next day is another step, as a leap, overcoming The fear. That basement was also placed, so unsettling. It just never sat right upon the foundation. When the light didn’t turn on I told myself it was the wiring in this relic marketed as a home. It’s true when I was assured, “Ghosts don’t exist, there is no goblin in that darkness.” Unfortunately, those things which make your skin crawl are an unkinder fright than a few goblins. Always remember, The fear is an innate necessity, not cowardice of the unknown.
But even within that knowledge I eventually found myself at The fear, one could call it a facing of The fear. It is a night still darker than the journey could have ever made one believe. Then you are called to entwine with nothing. I don’t know how I’m worthy of being alive after such an experience, after The resentment becomes me, when The vengeance finally finds its freedom.
Like a wildflower barreling through a freight train.
Like a vulture eating you alive –

Processing all life.
